Laura

Laura arrived to Portugal in 2008.  She is Scottish-American and arrived here with three cats – two rescued in America and one rescued in France.  Laura first found her two dogs, Lola and Luna, as 5 month old stray puppies.  She tried to find them homes for 6 months before she finally gave up (and now very happily) has kept them as her forever dogs.

After Laura adopted Lola and Luna, she then found where Lola and Luna came from – and the rest of the dog family!  - another 6 dogs and puppies.  They were taken to Goldra and Laura has since found them all homes.

Laura has also since adopted Ferris, who was very traumatized after being thrown out of a moving car at 3 months old!  And Tzar (who is a long-long term foster and maybe her forever dog).  She lives with her family and animals.

Since Feb 2010 and the Goldra closure announcement Laura has successfully managed to find, help and rehome a number of abandoned dogs and cats by contacting well known and trusted animal associations in Germany and Holland.  Laura is a retired US lawyer, and now works full time helping the rescues.

Katy

Katy arrived to Portugal in 2007 – after living here for just two months, Katy found two male puppies in a drain in Vilamoura. They are now 5 years old and have been happily re homed with her parents!

After living in the Algarve for some time she decided to begin a forum where she could post information on special dogs and cats in need of homes and began the SOSAA blogspot which has now developed into this website. This was aimed at special animals looking for homes inside the shelters of Portugal and also helping kind people find homes for thier foster animals who they had rescued from the street.

Katy’s involvement grew with the Goldra closure announcement in March, 2010.

Katy now has one rescue cat Frankie who she adopted in 2009 from the Canil Sao Francisco in Loulé, two rescue female dogs Missy and Goldra – sisters from Goldra rescue centre, and one male dog who was found thrown over the fence at Merrylegs boarding kennels at only a few hours old! She continued to bottle feed him and he is now 1 and a half years old!

Katy works for Premier FX – a currency exchange company in Portugal and volunteers helping the rescue animals in the local animal shelters.
