GUADI And Canil VRSA
GUADI is the animal association which now manages the Municpal Shelter CRA. They work with the VRSA municpality and are located just before the border with Spain. In August, 2011 there are over 200 dogs and about 150 cats at this canil. Many of the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are loving, outgoing, well cared for — all they need is a home.
The dogs are separated into fenced areas, some in the smaller pens are even turned out to play daily while their kennels are cleaned. All the females are spayed, as many males as possible are neutered but this is limited by funds. The cats are being tested so that healthy cats live in one area and cats who are ill or have leukemia live in another area. The municpal vet is at the shelter daily.
Generally, they are a small group of indiviudals that have accomplished a tremendous amount of good with little funding or other support in a very short time. They drastically need donnations (fencing, beds, medical supplies and especially food or money) to continue to care for these dogs and cats. If you visit this canil they will welcome you with open arms, they know all the animals, can help you find the right dog, puppy, cat or kitten, and if you are willing to simply to take one or two for a walk that day - that too will also be welcomed.
If you are looking to adopt and wish to visit this canil take the A22 towards Spain, exit Vila Real San Antonio, follow Castro Marim and you will see the signs for the canil.
