Original Posting February, 2011.
Blondie we found wandering along the side of the road in 2010. She was so lost, so thirsty. Stopping the car it only took a quick whistle for Blondie to come running and jump in the boot. From the first moment we found her she has always been happy and eager to please.
Very sadly, Blondie tested positive for leish and heartworm. She was also already spayed, so she had definitely been someone’s pet, but she had no microchip and no one was looking for Blondie. While we are not normally able to keep dogs who test positive for leish, and especially since she also needed treatment for heartworm, there was just something so special about Blondie and the way she stole your heart. The pet hotel next to the vet offered a space to Blondie, she was so sweet and happy to have found a safe place that we gratefully accepted this offer as we so wanted to give her a chance.
She received treatment for leish, heartworm and tickfever. The leish is now controlled and she receives alipurinol daily. For a long time we tried to find a home for Blondie, but sadly, it is so difficult to rehome a dog with leish and that special person just never came along for Blondie.
Update September 10, 2012.
It has been a year full of ups and downs for Blondie. The good news is that one of the tenants who lives at the pet hotel fell for Blondie, and while she is not able to adopt Blondie she does often take her into her home at night so as she can have a soft and comfy bed to call her own. Sadly, Blondie is suffering from heart problems, most probably due to her earlier heartworm. At the moment Blondie seems to be doing ok, she is on medication, sadly the medication is expensive.
We estimate was born in January 2009. For a complete photo gallery of Blondie and her time with us please click here.
