Identification of Your Animal
Microchipping:
By law in Portugal all animals born after July, 2008 must have a mircochip and rabies vaccination. These microchips must be properly registered, which can be done at your local vet’s office. If your dog ends up either at the vet, camara or a shelter, these places are supposed to scan for the microchip. The registration of the number will provide whomever has the dog with your contact telephone number.
Keep a record of the microchip number, and if you do lose your dog then contact the registration offices to ensure that your contact information is correctly on file.
A microchip an also help find lost cats! Many cats are in road accidents and taken to the vet. It is not a definite way to find a lost animal, but it does help.
Tagging:
Place a tag on the collar of your animal with your telephone number. If an animal appears lost but is wearing a collar and tag it is the most effective way to ensure that someone who sees your dog will realize it is a beloved family pet and help.
Please visit our Lost Animals section if you have lost or found an animal.
