Treatment Program for Cats and Kittens

Any cat or kitten should begin by seeing a vet for an initial check up and a program should be put in place for the treatment, vaccination and health of the cat or kitten.

All cats and kittens receive a microchip and rabies vaccination.
All cats will be sterilized.
All kittens should or will be sterilized once old enough.

For Cats:

Bloodwork: we test for feline leukemia and feline aids

Wormers and Flea Treatments:

  • Day 1: Profendor and a Frontline Combi or Advantage
  • Plus One Month: Repeat Profendor and Frontline Combi or Advantage
  • With proper follow up worming and flea and ear-mite protection thereafter

Vaccinations:

Upgraded Vaccination: Includes rhinotracheitis, calicivirosis, panleukopenia, and feline leukaemia

We give two such “upgraded vaccinations” spaced one month apart to provide them maximum protection.

For Kittens:

Bloodwork: we do no standard bloodwork on kittens less than 6 months.

Wormers:

  • At 2 weeks of age a kitten is given panacur paste for 3 days, properly followed up one month later for another 3 days. From hereon wormers will be repeated as necessary or at 6 months of age.

Flea Treatments:

  • From 2 weeks of age until 8 weeks of age a kitten can be de-flead only using frontline spray, which cannot be applied directly and must be applied by a few sprays onto a towel or your hands with which you then wipe the kitten’s fur
  • At 8 weeks of age we use advantage or fontline or advocate, which is then repeated one month later, and proper follow up treatments are given every month thereafter.

Vaccinations:

  • A kitten can only receive its first vaccination at 3 months.
  • A kitten needs a follow up vaccination 1 month later
  • We vaccinate a kitten at 3 months and 4 months of age. We closely observe their health following their vaccinations.
  • A kitten is not protected and should be kept in a safe area until 10 days after this second vaccination.
