JOINT SPONSORSHIP TOWARDS THE STERILIZATION OF ONE FEMALE
NEUTRALIZING ANIMALS, THE ONLY WAY FORWARD
With just 30 euros you can part-sponsor the sterilization of a female dog who, without your help, would continue to produce litter after litter of unwanted puppies. Homes cannot be found for all these puppies, only a lucky few will have happy endings. Many will be abandoned to shelters, die of disease or starvation… they will be left on the streets where they too will soon be producing more and more unwanted puppies.
Who Will You Sponsor?
These are not animals with owners who are looking for a cheap deal. They are sad cases for whom help is not otherwise available. They are not even the animals of SOSAA, all of whom we also sterilize. Your sponsorship will help female dogs who either live on the street or under partial-care homes …..

Costs
The average cost to sterilize a medium sized female (up to 20 kilo) is € 90,00. SOS Algarve Animals has limited funds, but is fully committed to reducing the number of unwanted puppies, and need your help by buying a Sterilization Voucher, for only € 30,00 you can jointly sponsor sterilization and already make a world of difference! Of course if you would like to sponsor a complete sterilization that is also very welcome!
How to obtain a Sterilization Voucher?
By email: please send an email to sosalgarveanimals@hotmail.com providing your name, telephone number and email address, informing us that you would like to buy a sterilization voucher. Upon receipt of your payment, you will receive a confirmation of purchase of the Sterilization Voucher. This will be followed later with a completed Sterilization Voucher including the animal’s name, photo and date of sterilization.

In person: (participating vets and shops). Please request the “voucher book” and complete your name, telephone number, email address, leaving € 30,00 for the voucher. Upon our receipt of your payment, you will receive a confirmation of purchase of the Sterilization Voucher. Sterilization is the Only Way Forward
SOS Algarve Animals already sterilizes and castrates all the dogs which they re-home, female puppies are sterilized as of 5 months of age. When they are adopted at a young age, a sterilization date is set at the time of adoption, and check-ups take place. SOS Algarve Animals will take in a litter of puppies in need of help, but only when the mum dog can come too and be sterilized (of course when present), and subsequently returned. If we do not spay the mum, there will be a supply of unwanted puppies every six months, this is adding to the current dog problem in Portugal, not helping at all. All veterinary clinics should advise clients correctly and push for sterilization for female dogs/cats BEFORE they have litters.
Three Month Example of Sterilizations by SOSAA:
From February to April, 2012 SOS Algarve Animals sterilized 32 females coming from various backgrounds including 12 female dogs from a Gypsy Camp in Loule, pregnant street dogs, friendly female street dogs, dogs living on chains, dogs with “owners” but who live well below the Portuguese poverty line. The total cost is just under 3000,00 euros. Without help these 32 dogs would have all had puppies….32 x 8 = 356 puppies…and that’s just the 1st litter.
While none of these dogs come from an ideal home or living situation, they are also not coming from situations of abuse or extreme neglect. These female dogs have now all been sterilized and they will live a far better quality of life.
